The park

Botho Strauss (born December 2, 1944, in Naumburg) is a storyteller, essayist, and one of the most successful and most performed contemporary German playwrights. The theatre piece The Park was written for Peter Stein. The characters stumble into the plot of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In prosaic big-city park devoid of poetry, they seek out love or each other’s embraces. Then, the Midsummer characters appear pursuing the happiness they long for, dripping Shakespeare’s honeyed poetry into sordid reality.
