The Darkfaces (The Slandered) MITEM 16

Is it possible to allow the beautiful Galima, the pride of the village, to fall in love with an ordinary village boy Zakir? Reactionary rural people are outraged: the heroes were caught talking. "Does Shariat law allow a girl to communicate with a boy?" they ask Hazrat. What decision should a minister of faith make? To forgive Galima and Zakir means, according to the laws of faith, to lose authority in the eyes of fellow villagers. His rank obliges him to stand guard over morality. One thing remains − to punish.

What is the play "The Darkfaces" about today, when religious motives have receded into the background, and ordinary human vices have come forward? It's all the fault of people who are able to justify immoral acts with religious postulates. The tragedy focuses on human nature. And this is a timeless, eternal theme. Like life.
