Tales from the Vienna Woods Play with folk motifs, in two acts

“What are your intentions for me, oh Lord? ... Oh little God up there, if you can hear me, I was born and went to school in the eighth district... I am not a bad person... Can you hear me? What are your intentions for me, oh Lord?”
In this story, set in interwar Vienna, Mariann is celebrating her engagement to the butcher. Everything is working out beautifully on the banks of the blue Danube, until Alfred pops up, whom Mariann falls in love with. Her father disowns her, and the girl throws herself with abandon into the depths of a hopeless existence.
Does God hear the residents of a little street in the eighth district? Can those who need to be forgiven be forgiven?
