János Pilinszky

KZ Oratorio

“All that can happen is scandalous, and all that has happened is sacred.” This famous statement was made by Pilinszky. Can art restore dignity to those who have been deprived even of their deaths? Can reparation be made? One thing is certain, the artist cannot escape the torments of collective conscience. On the contrary, the artist must keep collective conscience alive. Moreover, the artist must do everything possible to make reparations for crimes committed against humankind, even if it seems hopeless. Must try here and now. This is the theme of János Pilinszky’s KZ Oratorio, for all torments notwithstanding, Pilinszky believed in the healing power of art. This production is also an expression of this conviction, which we share with Pilinszky.
