Heroic Soul
Heroic Soul is a play about return and a new start. It was written during the Second World War and is set during the First. When our home and our homeland lie in ruins, how can we start again?
The performance begins with burnt, cindery stumps which slowly become the trees of a forest. Then a house is built and organ pipes fashioned with the timbers that have been felled by human force. Children play on the tremendous organ. This is the “harmony” out of which, many people hope, “our house will finally be built.”
In Attila Vidnyánszky’s production, the thought of construction and the questions of love, happiness, storytelling, and faith are all palpable as part of the great tradition of the poetic theatre, faithful to Áron Tamási’ art.
