Ballad of two Wounded Swans

Vysotsky, one of the legendary daredevils of Soviet theatre, and Marina Vlady, a celebrated star of French film, had a destructive, overwhelming love that knew no boundaries. Hobo wrote the story of a woman who works at the phone company and plays an important part in the relationship between Vysotsky and Vlady for actress Nelli Szűcs. Through this character, he not only tells us of the stormy relationship between two artists, but also shows us the absurdity of the Soviet era and the distressing fate of and humiliations endured by the Russian people. We see from the perspective of the everyman how a Romantic woman becomes an informant and how she lives with her husband, once a talented boxer, now fallen into decline (Hobo himself plays this character). And much as Szűcs also plays the part of Vlady, Hobo performs the songs as Vysotsky’s alter-ego.
