Tempestuous burlesque, a great celebration and performance, and in a comic refraction of the light we can also speak of where Hungary’s place is, in Europe and in the world. The basic setup of Feydeau’s Flea has relevant overtones. The rush to and fro of many nationalities in the European bordello, where Hungarians have their own modest yet fateful role. The characters and the situations sometimes seem to wander near the border of insanity, and the forces that move people grow to metaphysical proportions. The goal of laughter is not a forced sense of merriment, but rather self-recognition, which when taken with a bit of comedy can help heal…
