Mice is a Romeo and Juliet story that takes place in a cheese workshop between a family of white mice and a family of gray mice. It is a fable that teaches children how to accept and live in peace with others. The production, which offers a memorable artistic experience for families with children, is based on Gyula Urbán’s Minden egér szereti a sajtot, or “Every Mouse Loves Cheese.”
The National Theatre devotes considerable attention to improving relationships between Roma and non-Roma, helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds attend the theatre, and improving access to culture. The production of Mice, in collaboration with the Karaván Theatre Company, was motivated in part by these considerations.
