JAN FABRE BOOK SHOW - From action to acting
The Hungarian edition of the book Jan Fabre – Luk Van den Dries: From Action to Acting. Jan Fabre’s Guidelines for 21st Century Performers will be presented on the occasion of the Troubleyn / Jan Fabre Company’s guest performance in Hungary. The book, which has already been published in eleven languages, is the latest installment in the gap-filling series launched by the University of Theatre and Film Arts in 2023 under the title SZFE Books, exploring the acting methodology of outstanding masters of world theatre.
In his book, Fabre reveals his artistic credo in an essay-like form, while providing a comprehensive picture of the fundamental guidelines and creative approach of his theatre work. The focus is on a detailed presentation of those acting practices that are based on Fabre’s experiences as a director and choreographer and play a decisive role in the development of his theatrical language. The volume sheds new light on the physical, mental and vocal preparation of the performers, and provides insight into Fabre’s revolutionary ideas on contemporary theatre.
The SzFE series has so far published volumes by Theodórosz Terzopulosz, Tadashi Suzuki and Eugeino Barba. Fabre’s work is another contribution to the fact that international theatre knowledge can become part of Hungarian education, and future theatre creators can enrich their individual vision with new forms and content.
