The Hairdresser

It is the world premiere of The Hairdresser. The play is a product of contemporary Russian drama, which is in active demand nowadays. Despite its modern features, it is rooted in the Gogolian traditions. It is a mirror for the fate of ordinary people, but the pursuit of happiness and the writer’s dedication to the human right to love shines through the grotesque style of the play.

Fabulous winged men

Attila Vidnyánszky evoked a strange vision in his new production. The main motive behind this vision is the perpetual human wish to fly, which has been realized through extended historical epochs in a colourful wide-screen tableaux. One of the threads of this story is the heroic struggle, during a certain period of history in the Soviet Union, between engineers whose aim was to triumph in their rivalry with one another in the field of cosmic research.

Scapin’s Deceits

Silviu Purcărete is one of the world’s most acknowledged director, a celebrity of significant theatrical festivals and well known theatres. He directed Prokofiev’s opera Fiery Angel in the Csokonai Theater in November 2010, which won the „Best Performance” Prize in 2010 in Szeged Armel Opera Competition and Festival.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare is a madcap comedy, in which three actors make an attempt to stage all 37 of Shakespeare's plays in less than two hours. It has been a huge success in London's West End.

Showcase

The National Theatre will be taking part in a showcase, organized by the Hungarian Theatre Critcs' Association, this March.

Angels in America

The National Theatre offers a special night to the audience. Tony Kushner’s Angels in America actually contains two whole play, which - for the first time in the world - could be reduced into one show with the writer’s permission. The new translation made by a young Hungarian poet, Balázs Szálinger.

International Theatre Festival 4. 0 – co-production of the National Theatre and the Budapest Spring Festival

Under the umbrella of the 2012 edition of the Budapest Spring Festival the National Theatre will host international guest performances again. However, the Festival traditionally begins with a Hungarian performance.
