Ivo van Hove
Ivo van Hove is a major figure on the international theatre scene. He has produced around 100 shows. In three decades, the current artistic director of the Toneelgroep, whose field of exploration embraces the world of theatre, cinema and opera, has covered a wide repertoire of pieces, from Sophocle to Shakespeare, Molière, Tony Kushner, Arthur Miller, Ibsen, Louis Couperus or Hanya Yanagihara. Lately, he directed Freud, after “Le Scénario Freud” by Jean-Paul Sartre at the Toneelhuis in Amsterdam and on tour. He has also directed operas such as “Salome” by Strauss, “Boris Godounov” by Moussorgski, “Don Giovanni” by Mozart, “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” by Kurt Weill and “West Side Story” by Bernstein at the Broadway Theatre of New York. The show “Tartuffe or the Hypocrite” will be his third collaboration with ComédieFrançaise. Before, there were first “The Damned” after Visconti, presented in 2016 on Court of Honor of the Palais des papes at the Festival d’Avignon, Salle Richelieu of Comédie-Française in Paris and on tour in London, New York and Antwerp, and secondly “Electra/Orestes” after Euripides, presented in 2019 Salle Richelieu and on tour at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus for the Athens and Epidaurus Festival.
